The 2017–18 FA WSL will be the seventh edition of the FA WSL since it was formed in 2010. This will be the first season of WSL which runs as a winter league. It is planned to start in September 2017 and ends in May 2018, with 10 teams competing in both leagues.
A one-off competition, the FA WSL Spring Series, will run from February to May 2017 to bridge the gap from the 2016 FA WSL season and act as a warm up tournament.
Ten teams will compete in this season. Following the closure of Notts County Ladies in April 2017, one place in the league will be given to a team which competed in the Spring Series, based on an evaluation by the FA of applicant clubs' business plans, budget, youth development, facilities and on-pitch performance.
Ten teams will compete in this season. One of the sides currently due to play in the league will be promoted to the WSL1.
