The 2016 season will be IFK Göteborg's 111th in existence, their 84th season in Allsvenskan and their 40th consecutive season in the league. They will compete in Allsvenskan, Svenska Cupen where they were knocked out in the group stage and in qualification for the UEFA Europa League where they were knocked out in the play-off round. League play will start on 3 April and will last until 6 November.
