The 2016 League of Ireland Premier Division season is Cork City's 32nd year competing in the League of Ireland and 5th consecutive season in the Premier Division. It is manager, John Caulfield's third year in charge of Cork City after finishing as runners up in both 2014 and 2015 seasons.

Cork City qualified for the President's Cup Final after finishing runners-up in both the league and FAI Cup in 2015. They faced Champions Dundalk in Turners Cross on 27 February.
