The 2016–17 Ekstraklasa is the 61st season of the Ekstraklasa, Polish's top-tier handball league. A total of fourteen teams contest this season's league, which began on 17 September 2016 and is scheduled to conclude in April 2017.
Vive Tauron Kielce are the defending champions, having beaten Wisła Płock 3–0 in the previous season's playoff finals.
The competition format for the 2016–17 season consists of 2 groups of seven teams each playing in a home-and-away round-robin system. The top 3 teams of each group qualifies directly to quarterfinals, while teams ranked 4th and 5th qualifies for a previous play-off round
The following 14 clubs compete in the Ekstraklasa during the 2016–17 season. Śląsk Wrocław was relegated from the previous season while KS Meble Wójcik Elbląg, MKS Piotrkowianin Piotrków Trybunalski and Wybrzeże Gdańsk were promoted from 2015-16 I liga.
A victory over a team of the same group add 1 extra point. A loss after regulation time also add a bonus point.
