The 2016–17 season of the Regionalliga is the 58th season of the third-tier football league in Austria, since its establishment in 1959.
No team from the Regionalliga West applied for promotion, therefore the play-offs are cancelled. Instead, the Regionalliga Ost champion will be promoted to the Austrian Football First League if it holds a First League license.
