The 2015–16 Halifax Hurricanes season is the inaugural season for the franchise. The franchise was founded to replace the bankrupt Halifax Rainmen.
The Hurricanes went undefeated in the preseason, winning both games played. The first game was played against the Island Storm in Sydney, Nova Scotia before an estimated 1,100 fans. The game was played to introduce the National Basketball League of Canada to the city, who was award an expansion franchise for the 2016–17 NBL Canada season. The expansion franchise will be named the Cape Breton Highlanders.
The Hurricanes' game on December 26, 2015 was the first ever home game for the franchise. The Hurricanes won the game 129-113 in front of approximately 2,000 fans.
