The Grêmio started the season using a top squad of his academy, the under-20s team, at the beginning of the Campeonato Gaúcho, because the first team squad extended its pre-season for Copa Libertadores de América. Despite starting with the under-20s, Grêmio came with confidence to the final of the Campeonato Gaúcho. However, was defeated 6-2 on aggregate to their biggest rival, the Internacional, due to the wear of their players who compete simultaneously the Copa Libertadores.

In Copa Libertadores, Grêmio came to Round of 16 with the second best overall campaign competition among 32 teams, although she was in the second phase in the known group of death. In the Round of 16 your opponent was the San Lorenzo, and, with injuries to three of their main players, Luan, Wendell and Rhodolfo, Grêmio was eliminated in a penalty shootout decision.
