The Hurricanes were led by second-year head coach Al Golden and played their home games at Sun Life Stadium. They were members of the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

For the second season in a row, the Hurricanes self–imposed a bowl ban on themselves with regard to the status of a current NCAA investigation into whether or not they followed the university's compliance practices.
