The 2006–07 season was Newport County's third consecutive season in the Conference South and they had been ever-present since the introduction of the Conference North & South in 2004.
Newport County missed out on a place in the promotion play-offs due to a last-day defeat to Cambridge City. The club also missed out on silverware following their second FAW Premier Cup Final defeat.

County reached the First Round Proper of the FA Cup for the first time since the 2001–02 season. The first-round match with Swansea City ended in defeat but set a new record attendance at Newport Stadium. The club also reached their second FAW Premier Cup final but were beaten one-nil at home to The New Saints.
