In the Men's Singles at the 2005 Wimbledon Championships, Roger Federer was the two-time defending champion, and defeated Andy Roddick 6–2, 7–6(7–2), 6–4 in the final to win the title for the third time.

This tournament was the first Grand Slam tournament in which future World No. 1 and two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray competed in the main draw. He was defeated in the third round by David Nalbandian after leading two sets to love; to date it remains the only professional match in which Murray has lost from two sets up.
