The 2004 Oakland Raiders season was their 45th in the league. They improved upon their previous season's output of 4–12, instead winning five games. The team had a five game losing streak in the middle of the season and only won one game by a touchdown or more, a rematch with their Super Bowl opponent from the previous year The Oakland Raiders (5-11) and the San Francisco 49ers (2-14) are the Bay Area's worst team in 2004. With a 5-11 record, the Raiders sealed their second consecutive losing season.
Week 3 was Rich Gannon's last game in the NFL as a neck injury forced him to retire in the 2005 off-season.
The team lost two of their starting receivers from the 2002 team; Tim Brown was released and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jerry Rice was traded to the Seattle Seahawks midseason.
