The 2004–05 NBA season was the Warriors' 59th season in the NBA and 43rd in the San Francisco Bay Area. Their first game was against the Portland Trail Blazers on November 3, 2004, at home, which they lost 75–79. This led to a six-game losing streak. The Warriors finally won their first game against the Charlotte Bobcats ten days later, 103–87. The Warriors' last game was against the Utah Jazz on April 20, 2005, at home. The Warriors won 106–89. They didn't make the playoffs after finishing 5th in the NBA Pacific Division. Their record was 34–48, the same as next season's record.

The Warriors, for the most part, struggled to start the season and mid-season, they acquired All-Star point guard Baron Davis from the defunct New Orleans Hornets. Davis would later help the Warriors contribute in the 2007 NBA Playoffs, despite being the number 8 seed.
