Cal State Northridge competed in the Western Football Conference (WFC). The 1983 Matadors were led by fifth-year head coach Tom Keele. They played home games at Devonshire Downs in Northridge, California. Cal State Northridge finished the season with a record of six wins and four losses (6–4, 2–1 WFC). The Matadors outscored their opponents 205–200 for the season.
