The 1978 Royal Tru-Orange season was the 4th season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).
Royal had a 3-4 won-loss slate in the first round of eliminations of the All-Filipino Conference. They beat newcomer Filmanbank, 101-95, in their first game of the season. RTO won just two games in the second round and placed sixth in the first conference.
In the second conference, they were reinforced by hard-working imports Frank Gugliotta and Larry Williams. RTO were tied with U-Tex and Tanduay on top with five wins and two losses in the first round of eliminations. The Orangemen were almost assured of a semifinals berth until Toyota won its remaining games to virtually eliminated Royal.
