The 1977–78 season was the 63rd season of the Isthmian League, an English football competition.
At the end of the previous season the league divisions were renamed: the First Division was renamed the Premier Division and the Second Division was renamed the First Division. Also, seventeen clubs from the Athenian League were newly admitted to the league, they were placed to the new Second Division, as the league expanded up to three divisions.
Enfield won Premier Division, whilst Dulwich Hamlet won First Division and Epsom & Ewell won Second Division.
The Premier Division consisted of 22 clubs, including 20 clubs from the previous season and two new clubs, promoted from the old Second Division:
