The 1948 Arizona State Sun Devils football team was an American football team that represented Arizona State College (later renamed Arizona State University) in the Border Intercollegiate Athletic Association (BIAA) during the 1948 college football season. In their second season under head coach Ed Doherty, the Sun Devils compiled a 5–5 record (2–2 against BIAA opponents), and outscored their opponents by a combined total of 276 to 192. The Sun Devils finished 4-1 at home and 1-4 on the road. Al Onofrio and Bill Quinn were assistant coaches. The team captain was Garner Barnett. All home games were played at Goodwin Stadium in Tempe, Arizona.

Arizona State opened the season with a 23-0 shutout home victory over Western State. The Sun Devils beat Pepperdine 33-7 at Goodwin Stadium in Tempe, as Wilford "Whizzer" White recorded 91 interception return yards. White also scored a 103-yard kickoff return TD. ASC dropped a 22-17 road game at Utah State. The Devils responded with a 40-0 shutout home win against NAU. Arizona State lost the rivalry matchup to Arizona 33-21 in Tucson. The Sun Devils bounced back with a convincing 52-7 road win over New Mexico State. ASC lost a close 16-12 contest at Loyola Marymount. The Devils were handily defeated 63-25 on the road, as Hardin-Simmons collected 482 net rushing yards. ASC allowed a single game school-record 10.5 yards per rush by Hardin-Simmons. Arizona State suffered their 3rd straight loss, as BYU won 27-25 in Tempe. In the regular season finale, Wilford "Whizzer" White accumulated 306 all-purpose yards for the Maroon & Gold, as the Sun Devils outlasted New Mexico 28-17 for a home victory.

The usual Arizona State College offensive lineup included: (LE Jim Coppinger, LT Rudy DeRosa, LG Bob Rippel, C Dick Alonzo, RG John Zucco, RT Wendell Patterson, RE Cliff Hugoboom, QB Cecil Coleman, HB Wilford "Whizzer" White, FB Mark Markichevich, & HB Sammy Lewis).

Ed Albrick, Tony Balsamo, Henry Barbarick, Garner Barnett, Charley Beall, & Al Buckles were also on the roster.

Arizona State's leading rusher was Wilford "Whizzer" White (109 Carries, 776 Gross Yards, 227 Yards Lost, 539 Net Yards, & 5.0 Yard Avg).

The Sun Devils' leading passer was Cecil Coleman (82-141, 838 Yds, 58.2% Completion Pct., 9 TD, & 7 INT).
