In their sixth year under head coach Jeff Cravath, the Trojans compiled a 7–2–1 record (6–0 against conference opponents), won the Pacific Coast Conference championship, lost to Michigan in the 1948 Rose Bowl, and outscored their opponents by a combined total of 193 to 114.
