After a period of two to three years in which a large number of clubs left the league, this season marked the start of a period of growth. The champions this season were newcomers Lovells Athletic.
Four new clubs joined the league this season, and the number of clubs increased from nine to eleven after Hanham Athletic and Welton Rovers left the league.
1 The system of using goal average to separate two teams tied on points was used up to and including the 1976–77 season.
2 The points system: 2 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for losing.
