Ames High School is the sole high school in Ames, Iowa, United States.
In 2015 and 2016 Ames High School was named the top public high school in the state of Iowa by Niche.com In June 2013, Ames High School was named one of the top high schools in the country by U.S. News & World Report. In its recently released rankings, the magazine awarded Ames High School a silver medal.
Nearly one third of Ames High students retain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. In 2012, Ames High School produced the greatest number of National Merit Scholars in the state. In the class of 2012, there were 23 National Merit Semi Finalists Students from Ames High. Fifteen Ames High School students have been named presidential scholars since 1964, including one in 2012-2013 year. Ames High School has an ACT average of 25.3, and a SAT average of 1261 . The majority of Ames High School students go on to higher levels of education; in the class of 2012, 93.6% of graduates enrolled in four year colleges, universities, community colleges and vocational schools.
