Zero Time Exercise

Zero Time Exercise is a new concept to promote exercise. It is advocated by FAMILY: A Jockey Club Initiative for a Harmonious Society (“FAMILY Project”), a project jointly organised by the School of Public Health of The University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.

On 2015 May 14, a press conference was held to announce the survey results of “Hong Kong Family and Health Information Trends Survey” and the concept of Zero Time Exercise. It attracted wide media coverage among the Hong Kong media.

Zero Time Exercise refers to exercises that do not require extra time, money and equipment. It aims to motivate sedentary people and those who do not exercise regularly to start from Zero.

Zero Time Exercise is Enjoyable, Easy and Effective, and has many health benefits. If one exercises persistently, it helps burn more energy, enhance heart-lung function, strengthen muscles, refresh one’s mind and even relieve stress.

Zero Time Exercise can be done anytime, anywhere, and by anybody. One can do it while sitting, standing or walking. Therefore, it can be done during many daily activities, like while sitting or standing in a bus or train, watching TV, queuing, waiting for people or transportation, and in a meeting or lecture.

While sitting

While standing

While walking

Zero Time Exercise is not simply an exercise concept, it can also be enjoyable fun games for the whole family. For example, “single leg stand” can be a duration game to see which family member can hold for the longest time. “Seated pedalling” can be an endurance competition to see who can pedal for the longest time.
