Richard John Evans, FBA, FRSL, FRHistS (born 29 September 1947) is a British academic and historian, best known for his research on the history of Germany in the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly the Third Reich. He was Regius Professor of History at the University of Cambridge until 2014, where he is currently President of Wolfson College. He is also Provost of Gresham College in London.

Evans was born at Woodford, Essex, of Welsh parentage, and was, until September 2014, Regius Professor of History at the University of Cambridge. He is President of Wolfson College and Provost of Gresham College. He applied for the distinguished Cambridge position, whereas his predecessors were chosen, marking a procedural change at Cambridge. Evans has also taught at the University of Stirling, University of East Anglia and Birkbeck College, London. Having been a Visiting Professor in History at Gresham College during 2008/09, he was the Gresham Professor of Rhetoric between 2009 and 2013.
