Ponnambalam is a Tamil film actor who started his career as an extra fighter. he has appeared in Tamil films in predominantly supporting roles. He often played lead roles or a supporting antagonist and appeared in several films throughout the 1990s.
Ponnambalam was a sportsman who was active in gymnastics and other sporting activities. He became a national high-jump champion in 1984. He had six sisters to support, so he entered in cinema field.
He made his debut in cinema as a stuntman and got injured many times. He got his first break into films with the blockbuster Walter Vetrivel in which he played the role of the villain Kabali.
Ponnambalam joined the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in February 2011, beginning a career in politics.
