New Zealand Outdoors Party

The New Zealand Outdoors Party is a political party in New Zealand. The party is aimed at protecting the environment and New Zealand's "outdoors heritage". It was launched in September 2015 by Alan Simmons. In its December 2016 newsletter, the party stated it was "pushing hard" to get to 500 members so that it could register. In a letter to Rural News, Simmons claimed the party "has possibly more members than some parties already in Parliament", though did not give figures.

Simmons was summoned to court in late 2015 charged with lighting a fire without a permit in a fire-restricted area, but charges were dropped after a friend stated he started the fire. Simmons believes the charges were likely brought against him due to his criticism of the Department of Conservation's policies.
