National Philanthropic Trust


National Philanthropic Trust (NPT) is an independent public charity specializing in "tailored philanthropic solutions" for individuals, families, companies and foundations. NPT also partners with financial service firms and professional advisors, providing them with philanthropic products and services to offer their clients. It is based in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania.

NPT offers its clients giving options, including donor-advised funds, supporting organizations, and specialized field of interest funds. NPT helps donors with the administration and investment of their philanthropic dollars and allows them to recommend support to charities and causes that are important to them. NPT also provides educational seminars, family meetings, site visits, and research to leverage and enhance their giving.

The charity was founded in 1996, and since that time, NPT has been listed as one of the 100 fastest growing charities, and among the top 25 grantmaking institutions in the United States. Since its founding, NPT has raised $5 billion in charitable contributions and currently manages over $2.6 billion in charitable assets. NPT has made more than 111,000 grants totaling $2.5 billion to charities all over the world.

In 2011, the total assets of all donor-advised funds at NPT reached $1.03 billion (Up 58.6% from 2010). The total number of funds reached 1,909 (up 31.1% from 2010). The total amount donors contributed to their funds was $421.8 million (up 84.2% from 2010). The total sum donors channeled to charity from their funds was $149.5 million (down 9.3% from 2010). The average amount in each fund was $537,287 (up 21% from 2010).

Eileen R. Heisman, ACFRE, is Chief Executive Officer and President at National Philanthropic Trust. She has a bachelor's degree in psychology from Carnegie Mellon University, and a master's degree in social work from the University of Michigan.

John Canady is CEO of NPT-UK "the UK’s newest independent Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) sponsor. Canady will lead NPT’s UK affiliate, working with donors, advisors, financial institutions and foundations to identify and achieve philanthropic goals through DAFs."
