Kirk Goldsberry

Kirk Goldsberry is a geographer and a leading data visualization scholar, known best for pioneering the hexagonal shot chart in basketball analytics, and for being one of the leaders of the recent advanced metrics movement in basketball.

Formerly a staffwriter at Grantland and FiveThirtyEight, his work on sports and spatial reasoning has made regular appearances in the New York Times,Wired Magazine, Sports Illustrated, and on ESPN. He gained notoriety in part due to a series of popular research papers at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference.

He has taught a variety of courses on cartography and sports analytics at Harvard, the University of Texas, and Michigan State University. He is currently working as the VP of Strategic Research for the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA.
