Helsinki Central Library

The Helsinki Central Library is an upcoming public library in Helsinki, Finland to be built by the year 2018. The library will be built in the Töölönlahti district next to Helsinki Music Centre and Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art.

A bidding to build the library set out in 2012 was won by the Finnish architectural firm ALA Architects. Structural design is by Ramboll Finland, drawing on competence in Denmark and Great Britain. The library will be a three story building and will include a sauna and a ground floor movie theater.

In January 2015 the Helsinki City Council voted 75–8 to launch the building project. The estimated costs of the new library are 98 million euros, of which the state will pay 30 million in connection with the centenary of Finland's independence in 2017. The city of Helsinki has budgeted 66 million euros for the building.

On December 31, 2016, it was announced that the new library would be named Oodi (Ode). There are two official names for the library in English: Helsinki Central Library Oodi and Library Oodi, Helsinki.
