Certified Case Manager

In today’s complex health care environment, the professional case manager serves as the client advocate to ensure safe, effective and efficient provision of needed health services. Research from the Commission’s own primary research, the Role & Functions Study indicates that employers recognize the next level of demonstrated competency, attainment of the Certified Case Manager (CCM®) credential, or board certification. The value of board certification as a quality indicator, or a proxy for demonstrating experience, knowledge and competence in case management.

Case managers who have earned the CCM credential have the expertise, knowledge, and professional experience to provide the right services to patients across the continuum of care. Board-certified case managers are committed to uphold the highest professional and ethical standards.

The Commission offers resources for those who employ case managers to increase their own knowledge of training, networking and research about case management and to advance the knowledge of case managers within their organizations. We launched the Commission for Case Manager Certification’s Case Management Body of Knowledge® (CMBOK®) as an online educational tool to support training and education of professional case managers and to refresh the knowledge one must possess to work independently and effectively. The CMLearning Network® is a learning hub and network for information about the current and future practice of high-quality case management services—a community to share issue briefs, webinars and other materials that help case managers stay in front of health care trends that affect the profession..
