Non-governmental organizations

Some non-governmental organizations (NGOs) refer to themselves as private voluntary organizations, in order to remain independent from the U.N.-developed lists of NGOs. NGOs can be single-issue organizations; for example, Doctors Without Borders might dispense food supplements to counter malnutrition.

This category is closely related to the Charitable organizations and Nonprofit organizations categories. For English speaking countries, whether an article appears in one or the other depends primarily on local usage, which varies from one country to another.
