U-Design contest

U-Design contest is a global women's Indian ethnicwear design contest, run annually by Triveni. Design students globally can apply for the contest with their prior work - and they are allowed to select fabric on Triveni's website which is delivered free to them. This levels the contest field - students will be competing on the same fabric options that, and are freed from the constraints of advantages or disadvantages of having more or less fabric options available at their disposal.

Started in 2014, the contest starts in August every year and runs till December. The students apply for the contest with their prior on Triveni's website, wherein they are shortlisted for the contest. Students then select the fabrics from Triveni's u-Design collection, which is couriered to them. Students first sketch their designs, to which Triveni's design team gives a feedback. Eventually, after another couple of iterations - the final designs with photoshoots are submitted, which are put up for voting on a Triveni u-Design poll page & social media. An eminent jury also scores the designs. The combination of these scores designs the winners.

U-Design contest has been growing rapidly, with the inaugural 2014 edition having more than 16 shortlisted teams, 2015 edition having more than 35 shortlisted teams and the current 2016 edition having more than 40 shortlisted teams.
