Tukkilaiskisat

Tukkilaiskisat is timber rafting, tradition and competition in Finland. In Finland, competition can also be called Tukkilaiset. Originally tukkilaiset were log drivers but timber rafting has gone away from rivers. Skills still exist and those are shown in Tukkilaiskisat.

Places where happening has been lately: Ii (Raasakkakoski), Kuusamo (Käylä), Laukaa (Kuusaankoski), Ylitornio (Kattilakoski), Imatra (Tainionkoski) and Lieksa. Championship 2017 will be in Torniojoki. Some participants are old and well experienced but also younger people are interested. Successfully ones are training also in other sports to keep up good balance and condition.

Many movies have been done about log drivers: Erkki Karus Koskenlaskijan morsian from 1923.

Books: Johannes Linnankoskis Laulu tulipunaisesta kukasta and Teuvo Pakkalas Tukkijoella, which both also made movies.
