Point Foundation (Point), founded in 2001, empowers promising lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) students to achieve their full academic and leadership potential – despite the obstacles often put before them – to make a significant impact on society. Point promotes change through education, mentorship, leadership development and community service training, and provides its scholars with the financial ability to attend the nation's foremost higher educational institutions. To date, Point has assisted more than 350 scholarship recipients.

A Point Scholarship may be used to help cover the cost of tuition, books, supplies, room and board, transportation and living expenses. The comprehensive scholarships allow students to excel in the classroom, on campus and in their communities. In addition, Point Scholars are matched with mentors from the professional world who serve as positive role models and provide personal support, ensuring that students build a foundation of leadership skills they can use throughout their careers. Through its scholarship recipients, Point seeks to build a community of socially active leaders who foster a greater level of acceptance, respect, and tolerance for all persons.

In 2016, Point initiated a new Community College Scholarship Program, a one-year transformative experience offering academic and personal development for community college students as they plan to transfer to a four-year institution. Wells Fargo funded the inaugural year of the program which assisted 11 students. Students accepted into the program will receive up to a $3,700 tuition scholarship, admissions counseling, coaching, and financial education at the Point Community College Transfer Symposium in Los Angeles.

Point Foundation’s Point Honors galas – previously named Voices on Point – recognize leaders in the LGBTQ community and celebrate Point Scholars and Alumni. These events are held annually both in New York and Los Angeles. Past honorees include Jeffrey Tambor, Jonathan Groff, Lena Dunham, Robin Roberts, Greg Louganis, Pete Nowalk, Uzo Aduba, and Dustin Lance Black.
