Pelucones

Pelucones (Spanish for bigwigs) was the name used to refer to Chilean conservatives in early 19th century. The name Pelucones was originally used by the Pipiolos or liberals in a despective maner by linking the conservatives to oldfashioned wigs that were popular in the 18th century. Following the Chilean Civil War of 1829, where the Pipiolos were defeated, the Pelucones enforce the Chilean Constitution of 1833 with led to creation of a strong unitarian and authoritarian presidentialist system held up by upper-class democracy.

In Ecuador the President Rafael Correa popularized the term since he assumed the presidency in 2007.
