November 11

November 11 is the 315th day of the year (316th in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar. There are 50 days remaining until the end of the year. This date is slightly more likely to fall on a Wednesday, Friday or Sunday (58 in 400 years each) than on Monday or Tuesday (57), and slightly less likely to occur on a Thursday or Saturday (56).

In H.G. Wells' story "The Man Who Could Work Miracles", the date of November 11 has a crucial importance. As related in the story, a few minutes after 3.00 AM GMT on Monday, Nov. 11, 1896, an inept wizard - possessing a virtually unlimited power and a very limited understanding of that power - in a single minute destroyed the whole of humanity (except for himself) and most other life on Earth. Fortunately, he was able to reverse that catastrophe and was wise enough to remove his own power and his memory of ever having possessed it, so that no trace was left of what happened.
