The Journal of Book of Mormon Studies (JBMS) is an annual journal published by the Neal A. Maxwell Institute for Religious Scholarship. Funding comes from the Laura F. Willes Center for Book of Mormon Studies.

The Journal of Book of Mormon Studies was created in 1992 as a semiannual publication of the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies (FARMS) at Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah. BYU is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which teaches that the Book of Mormon is sacred scripture alongside the Bible.

JBMS was a venue for new scholarship from a faithful perspective about Book of Mormon geography (Old World and New World), literary structures, name meanings, ongoing research, and other topics. Its articles about DNA and the Asiatic descent of indigenous American populations were promoted and referenced by LDS Church public affairs in 2003, in response to challenges to the Book of Mormon's claim of American-Hebrew lineage. The journal, along with FARMS, operated from the assumption that the Book of Mormon is historically ancient and scripturally true. JBMS takes an approach of orthodox scholarship without focusing on responding to critics of Mormonism or engaging in polemics. In 1998 the format changed from a plain academic journal style into a glossy magazine, intended to make its work more accessible to general LDS readers in addition to scholars.

This new journal was among several scholarly journals that had been created in the field of Mormon studies in the late 20th-century. Three years earlier in 1989, FARMS had launched its first journal, the Review of Books on the Book of Mormon, which offered responses to published scholarship or criticism about the Book of Mormon.

The journal publishes peer-reviewed articles on topics surrounding the Book of Mormon. It was first published in 1992 under its current title. In 2008 the journal was published under the title Journal of the Book of Mormon and Restoration Scripture. From 2009 to 2013 the journal was published under the title Journal of the Book of Mormon and Other Restoration Scripture. Beginning with a new editor in 2014, the journal was published under its original and current title.
