Bachelor of Economics


The Bachelor of Economics (BEc, BEconSc, BA(Econ), BSc(Econ), BSSc(Econ) or BBA(Econ)) is a three-year academic degree in the social sciences encompassing both literal and quantitative courses. Typical mandatory courses for the degree include, but are not limited to: microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, economic statistics, history of economic thought and political economy.

Some universities offer undergraduate degree students the opportunity to specialize in a particular area of economics, such as: applied economics, financial economics, mathematical economics and political economy.

An Honours Bachelor of Economics (H.B.Econ.) degree is a four-year degree and is taken subsequent to the three-year Bachelor of Economics. The degree consists of a single-year full-time program. The degree requires more academic courses with a researched thesis component and is an abridgement between the undergraduate program and the postgraduate programs including the: Master of Economics, Master of Financial Economics, Masters in Agricultural Economics, Masters in Development Economics and Masters in International Economics.
