Armageddon (Laser Tag)

Armageddon is a multi-system Laser Tag tournament format created in 2000. Over the course of several days, teams of 8 players compete in different arenas, using different hardware. At the end the winning team is calculated by the number of tournament points earned.

The tournament was founded by Ricky Vega in Dallas, TX. The location changes every few years to allow a different selection of arenas and systems to be played.

In 2000, 2001 and 2007 the tournament took place in Teaxas, in 2002, 2003, and 2006 it took place in Maryland, in 2004 and 2005 it took place in Ohio, New York and Canada, and in 2008/2009 it was held in the NY-NJ-PA region. Armageddon took place in the OH-KY-IN region in 2010. Each year US Armageddon takes place on the week of July 4.

In 2006 UK Armageddon was created, using the same rules and concepts as the original US tournament. It featured 3 teams of 6-8 players, and in recent years has grown to feature 5 teams of 8 players.

In 2009 Swedish Armageddon was hosted for the first time with the support of the US playerbase and tournament organizers.

In 2012 Russian players hosted their iteration of the tournament.

Over the course of several days, teams will take part in laser tag games at a number of centers on a planned route. The rules for each system are defined in advance and made available both online and in written form with house rules regarding taking precedence over tournament rules.

The rules format for individual systems in the UK, Swedish, and Russian variants are the same as those used in the US tournament.

Teams of players are not limited to fixed-rotation teams, but are often composed of free agents looking for a team. The tournament encourages incomplete teams to invite individual players to fill any empty spots.

Although the composition of teams is known to change year to year, typically a team name will persist for several years.
