The 2012 BNP Paribas Open was a professional tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts at Indian Wells Tennis Garden, Indian Wells, California, United States from March 5 through March 18, 2012. It was the 39th edition of the BNP Paribas Open, also known as the Indian Wells Masters, and was classified as an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event on the 2012 ATP World Tour. The men's singles draw consisted of 96 players in a 128-player grid that included 32 seeded players. All 32 seeded players received a bye into the second round.

Novak Djokovic was the defending champion having won the event in 2011 but lost 6–7(7–9), 6–3, 6–7(5–7) to 11th seeded John Isner in the semifinals. Isner's victory over Djokovic meant that he reached his first Masters 1000 final.
